Travel: Hawaiian Vacation 2011, Island of Oahu

On March 30th, 2011 my wife and I left the hustle and bustle of Southern California for a 4 night / 5 day vacation to the beautiful island of Oahu: the third largest island in the Hawaiian chain.

Day One:  03/30/2011

At about 0645hrs, we left the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) headed for the Honolulu International Airport (HNL).

After about 5.5 hours of flying we were finally over Oahu.

Just outside the arrivals terminal is where the car rental shuttle will pick you up to go to their respective lots.  After about ten minutes of waiting and our shuttle came.

After a quick 5 minute ride, we arrived at the Alamo Car Rental lot.  Registration was quick and painless.  The lot attendant was very cool.  She told us we could take whatever car was facing us.  We chose the Ford Fusion.  Note:  airlines don't serve hot food anymore and given the time we left and duration of flight, I was starving.  First order of business: get chow.

We drove to the first place on our list of places to eat.  Located about 15 minutes from the car lot is one of Oahu near iconic restaurants, Ezogiku saimin (noodle shop) located in the city of Waipahu.

We ordered the pork cutlet and saimin.  This is me going to town.

After I had stuffed myself to near coma (referred to the locals as "Kanak Attack"), I began noticing the around me that reinforced the fact that I was in Hawaii.  Nowhere else will you see a sign promoting shoyu (soy sauce).
